Preparation
- Serving size:6.40 oz (calculated)
- Temperature: 392 °F
- Sift the flour and mix it with the vanilla sugar, salt and milk until smooth.
- Add the egg yolks to the dough.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with about 2/3 of the sugar until stiff.
- Fold the egg whites into the dough.
- Heat the butter in an oven-proof pan.
- Add the dough to the pan and bake for 15 minutes in the oven.
- Quarter the dough, flip it and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Divide into chunks and top with the remaining sugar.
- Caramelize the sugar in the oven.
- Kaiserschmarrn tastes best topped with icing sugar with a side of apple sauce or plum jam. You can of course also enjoy it with a scoop if ice cream.
- Enjoy a large portion as a sweet main, or a small one as a dessert.
- Extra tip: If you like raisins, soak some in rum and top the dough with them before putting in the oven.
